Marking a Milestone: Impact Relief Celebrates Local Leadership and Vision in Malawi
LILONGWE, Malawi – On June 19, Impact Relief marked a significant milestone in its journey, bringing together partners, government representatives and church partners to celebrate its transition to a fully locally led organization.
While Impact Relief was officially established earlier this year, the June event provided an opportunity to publicly affirm its identity, unveil its mission and vision, and recognize the partnerships that will shape its future. The gathering also coincided with a broader reflection on World Relief’s 37 years of development work in Malawi, highlighting a legacy that Impact Relief now carries forward under local leadership.

Impact Relief, a Christian organization with a fully local leadership team and Board of Directors has its mission is to empower vulnerable communities to thrive economically, spiritually and socially in partnership with the church. The June celebration reinforced the organization’s commitment to locally driven development placing leadership, decision-making and innovation in the hands of those closest to the communities being served.
“Impact Relief takes up the mantle to partner with churches in Malawi and continue serving vulnerable communities through innovative, local solutions,” said Matitha, Executive Director of Impact Relief. “We are committed to building on what has been established, while strengthening locally led approaches that create lasting impact.”
A key highlight of the event was the formal presentation of Impact Relief’s mission and vision, setting the direction for its work moving forward. The organization will continue to focus on holistic development; supporting livelihoods, strengthening families, protecting children and engaging the church as a central partner in community transformation.

The event also included a symbolic handover of a baton to the Executive Director Matilda Matitha, representing the transition to local leadership and the responsibility to guide Impact Relief into its next phase.
This moment captured the essence of the journey moving from externally supported programming to a fully independent, locally led organization that is accountable to the communities it serves.
